Membership

As a new member of Hevrat Shalom, you will become a part of a nurturing congregation. You will have ample opportunity to spend time with our Rabbi, Cantor, Director of Jewish Education and those who sustain our community, our congregants.

The staff is there for you in their pastoral and educational capacities; our congregants will be there to introduce you to our many special programs including our Shabbat Dinners, Chanukah and Purim parties, Passover Seder, special family outings and our family picnic. These events highlight the Jewish experiences which you and your family will enjoy as part of the Hevrat Shalom family.

As a younger congregation, our dues are considerably lower than those of others in the area. By sharing space in the community, we are able to offer membership rates without a building fund. In addition, we have special rates for seniors and single individuals.

Membership in Hevrat Shalom also entitles you to enroll your children in our Religious School at reduced member rates, which is about half of the non-member tuition.

Most important, your membership helps strengthen our local Jewish community and adds your voice, by proxy through our congregation, to the national American Jewish movement.

To learn more about the congregation, please call the synagogue office at (301) 528-5307. By joining the Hevrat Shalom family, you will be taking a significant step in strengthening Jewish identity for you and your family.

A Letter From The Chairman

March 16, 2007

Dear Hevrat Shalom members,

I am sending you this note to let you know about an additional benefit Hevrat Shalom is bringing to your family. Because the Board and Clergy would like to encourage the participation of all family members, we are extending full, no cost membership to children of our congregants who are under the age of 35. This offer applies to single, partnered and married families and their children. By including your children and grandchildren you will enrich their lives and bring their energies to the Congregation.

Some of the benefits of membership will include:

  • The member cost for religious school,
  • High Holiday tickets, and
  • Notification of all activities.

Please activate your family’s free membership by contacting me.

Shalom,
Jon Pfeffer
